Dyslexia is a neurobiological learning disability that causes challenges in word recognition. 1 in 5 people have dyslexia. That’s 20% of students. Yet, the National Center for Education Statistics estimates that just 4.5% of students are accurately diagnosed.
Without a diagnosis, there is no treatment and without the correct support, students with dyslexia can fall significantly behind.
Fortunately, with the right teaching methods, 90% of students with dyslexia can overcome their challenges.
The Dyslexia Foundation (TDF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children with dyslexia by helping fund research for the early detection, prevention, and remediation of dyslexia. Through programs and conferences, The Dyslexia Foundation’s mission is “… to disseminate new findings and evidence-based reading approaches to researchers, practitioners and families; to prevent the economic and psychological suffering caused by reading failure, and to unlock the full potential of children and adults with dyslexia so that they may personally succeed and contribute fully to society.”
This month, through our program called Beck Tech Cares, we donated to The Dyslexia Foundation on behalf of Nick O’Connor, Beck Technology Implementation Specialist.
Nick says, “Growing up, I struggled with dyslexia, and organizations like TDF really help identify new ways of learning for neurodivergent individuals to help them unlock their full potential. Through the patience and care of programs like this, less children fall behind in education, and I personally have a lot of appreciation for the support I received.”
As a company that provides solutions to preconstruction teams that help build better buildings, we believe that collectively our work is making the world a better place. Because our core values are passion, innovation, and caring, we don’t only care about the built environment. We care about those who live and work in the built environment…and that’s everybody!
One other way we can do this is by providing financial support to charitable organizations that are also dedicated to making the world a better place. Each month, one Beck Tech employee is nominated as our Beck Tech Cares winner, and they are afforded the opportunity to choose which organization receives the monetary donation.
From local groups to global, we support those causes that our team members are passionate about. This month marks are 75th donation.
