Beck Technology Gives to Homes of Hope for Children in Mississippi

Mississippi ranks 48th in child well-being in our country. There are an estimated 26,000 children in Mississippi who do not have a stable home. Youth homelessness increases the risk of:

  • Sickness
  • Severity of chronic illnesses
  • Poor nutrition
  • Delayed development
  • Mental health issues
  • Substance abuse

In Purvis, Mississippi, just 15 miles southwest of the fifth largest populated city in Mississippi, Hattiesburg, children living under the poverty level is 15% higher than the state’s average.

Not every child in need gets help through the government or government-funded programs and there are many children in Mississippi who are in crisis. Fortunately, there are organizations like Homes of Hope for Children that can provide stable and safe housing for children who need it.

Homes of Hope in Purvis, Mississippi is a faith-based, private charitable organization that is funded solely through donations by churches, businesses, and individuals. Homes of Hope for Children has 4 group homes housing 7 children between 4 and 18 years old, with house parents in residence, and 2 transitional apartments housing 12 young adults ages 18 and over.

Through our Beck Tech Cares program, Josh Walker, Lead Sales Engineer at Beck Technology, chose Homes of Hope for Children to receive a donation.

Josh says, ““I strongly believe in Homes of Hope goal of helping children in broken homes while keeping siblings together. Homes of Hope helps children from all over the state of Mississippi by giving them a stable home environment as well as providing them with apartments on their campus as they pursue college degrees. “

Homes of Hope for Children writes, “Homes of Hope for Children aspires to be the first placement for disadvantaged boys and girls in need of safe, stable homes throughout the state of Mississippi…Many have endured devastating crises throughout their short lives. Others come from families who are in courageous search of a better life for their kids…. Children are referred to our ministry by family members, school counselors, ministers, community agencies, Department of Human Services employees, and other concerned community members.”

Besides individual and family counseling, Homes of Hope for Children have a full-time social worker and full-time certified educator on staff.

Our Beck Tech Cares program gives us the opportunity to not only give back to the community but also celebrate one of the best things about Beck Technology—our people! Through one of our one of our personnel management tools, we give each other virtual high fives to recognize those who demonstrate one or all our core values of passion, innovation, and caring. Each person who gives and receives a high five is then a nominee to win the Beck Tech Cares winner of the month.

At the end of each month, we get together and read the high fives out loud and at the end of the meeting, one person is chosen as that month’s winner. Beck Tech then donates to that person’s charitable organization or cause of choice.

We are honored to be afforded this opportunity to support those organizations that are as passionate, caring, and diverse as our team!
