Beck Technology Donates to Compassion International

Beck Technology’s core values are passion, innovation, and caring. We are passionate about construction and technology. We are innovative in developing ways to revolutionize the industry and change the future. We care about the world, knowing that construction can change and even save lives. It is important for us to not only display our core values in everything we do at work but in our daily personal lives as well. Members of the Beck Tech team are chosen monthly because they demonstrate these core values.
To keep us all accountable for living our core values, we give each other virtual high fives through an online project management tool, noting the high five with #PIC—our core values of passion, innovation, and caring. At the end of each month, we read these high fives to everyone in the company, in which one Beck Tech team member is nominated to pick an organization where Beck Technology donates money through our Beck Tech Cares program.
Though the words caring and compassion do not mean the same thing, you can’t display compassion without caring. This month, Visual Communications Specialist Holly Hunt chose Compassion International—a faith-based organization and child-advocacy ministry that helps children living in poverty around the world.
Compassion International was founded by Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952 when he visited American troops in South Korea. After returning to the United States and telling the stories of what he witnessed there to his congregation, church members began to donate to help Korean War orphans in South Korea.
By partnering with local churches in 25 countries, Compassion International has been able to provide holistic child development to 4.2 million children to date. Compassion International writes, “Child development means each child assisted by our church partners receives whole-life care that is personal, individualized, relational, and tailored to the child's age, gender, health, culture, and family situation. Our focus on children involves a commitment to long-term involvement in a child's life. It is an investment in and for the life of the child.”
They define holistic child development as:
“Through our holistic child development model, we blend physical, social, economic and spiritual care together to help children in poverty fully mature in every facet of life and transcend what is often a generational legacy of poverty.” Holistic child development means we begin assisting a child in poverty, in some cases, when the child is still in the womb, and it means we go all the way through young adulthood with the child.”
The organization can do this through a sponsorship program and other donations which provide children access to school, medical care, food, and mentoring. Compassion International will also help children and their families with other basic needs such as clothing and shelter renovations. Further, as children in the program grow, Compassion International also provides job training. Families are supported with literacy classes, financial training, and workshops focused on parenting and marriage.
Holly says, “I chose Compassion International because recently my friend shared with me what the monthly gift of sponsoring a child provides them. It doesn’t just feed a child in need, but it includes healthcare, supplements, education, recreational activities, Christ-centered guidance, and hope. I love what they are doing and know that my monetary gift goes straight to a child to help them feel like the amazing human being they are and allows them to thrive no matter what environment they live in.”
