Question of the Week – DESTINI Estimator: Can I tie existing line items in my estimate template to the takeoff for a new project?
Questions of the Week are asked and answered in the Beck Technology Community. Anyone is encouraged to join the community to discover additional tips and tricks.
In the estimate view, we have a command at the top of the view called Map to Takeoff. This command enables a user to tie a line item that already exists in the Estimate View to a takeoff item in the Takeoff View. (works for both 2D and 3D models, this example will focus on 2D)
First, select the takeoff component in the Takeoff View. I will use the Takeoff Summary to capture all of the landscape areas on the page:
This will bring up the same takeoff window you would see in the traditional 2D takeoff workflow:
This results in the original line item now having the proper quantity, and the link has been established.
NOTE: Line items can only be mapped one-by-one. If the template is populated by assemblies, you can dramatically reduce the amount of time required to link the existing items to takeoff (one assembly might handle 5-50 items, for example). a smart workflow for a SOG assembly, for example, would be to answer as many of the questions as possible, but leave the Area / Thickness / Perimeter type variables with a value of 1. The 2D takeoff link would give you the real answers there.
