Every first Monday of the month, Beck Technology hosts a company-wide luncheon called Beck Tech Cares to congratulate each employee that has received a “high five”, a personal encouragement that mentions something appreciated they might have done. A person is previously selected to be announced as the “winner” and awarded to pick which charity or organization Beck Technology will donate to. With the heart of Beck Technology, we are not only able to give to the built community but also the community around us.
For July, our valued software engineer, Austin Craft, chose the GiveWell organization.
GiveWell is a nonprofit organization that is structured on researching the charities that can help the most lives with each dollar donated. Many people who want to donate their money are not sure where their money goes and what it accomplishes. GiveWell is a unique open-source nonprofit that provides financial reports, so people can see where their money is directly going to help. Each year, over 20,000 hours are spent researching programs to determine which are the most promising to help make an impact. Since 2007, over $700 million have been given through GiveWell to their recommended charities. These researched charities include medicines and nets to fight malaria, supplements to prevent vitamin deficiency, child vaccines, treatments for worm infections, and relief for extremely impoverished areas.
GiveWell also has a Maximum Impact Fund that allows people to donate the fund and at the end of every quarter, the organization finds where they think the money will do the best and donates there. Over 75,000 lives have been touched by this organization and many more will be forever changed by the donations that help change the world.
