About Us: History

Beck Technology began as an internal team within The Beck Group formed to develop technology to support their efforts in construction, architecture and real estate development. As a part of The Beck Group, Beck Technology was uniquely positioned to create a new type of software tool, coined Macro BIM, that improves the way architects and contractors interact with their clients. After years of internal use, we launched our first commercial version of the program, called DProfiler in October 2006.

The Beck Group was founded as a general contractor in Houston in 1912, opened its Dallas office in 1924, and has developed into a full-service builder with offices across the US and Mexico. Our mission is to revolutionize the AEC industry by fundamentally re-thinking the delivery process, resulting in order-of-magnitude improvements in value. By integrating design, engineering, construction and development services into one organization, we are uniquely qualified to eliminate the multitude of wasteful practices created when each discipline separately optimizes for their own bottom line. As the auto manufacturing industry learned in the 1970's, followed by the aircraft manufacturing industry in the 1980's, the value gained by integrating across disciplines dwarfs any incremental gains achieved through process improvement within a discipline.

With that vision in mind, we founded Beck Technology in the mid-1990's to create the technological tools required to most effectively integrate across these disciplines. While Toyota could amortize the cost of such technology over millions of units, and Boeing could do likewise over thousands, we can now deliver remarkable value for a single unit...in other words, the building. The issue is not the difference between manufacturing and project management; the fact is that prototyping before the manufacturing process begins is a nearly identical process to designing, engineering and constructing a project. Both require many different disciplines collaborating to create a unique result. But it is the technology which fosters better definition, accurate evaluation of alternatives, and instantaneous feedback, which ultimately maximizes the value of the process.

Today, Beck Technology is an incorporated software development firm serving the AEC community with a suite of macro BIM products holding over 25 patents. Beck technology's flag-ship product, DProfiler, enables a project team to rapidly model, scope and budget a project without investing significant hours and fees. One benefit from this approach is that it creates a common "platform" through which the disciplines can collectively and simultaneously discuss alternatives, resulting in the best solution for the customer. In addition, the resulting information ensures that all team members are better informed at project inception.
